Travel eSIM basics

Everything you need before choosing a plan.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM profile built into compatible phones. It lets you add a mobile plan without handling a physical SIM card.

Will my phone work with an eSIM?

Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked for use with other networks. On iPhone, look in Settings > General > About for an EID or available digital SIM. Android menu names differ, but look for an option to add an eSIM in your SIM or network settings.

Can I keep my usual number active?

Many dual-SIM devices can keep your usual SIM active for calls and messages while the travel eSIM provides mobile data. Check your home provider’s roaming charges before travelling.

How do I choose a plan?

Choose your destination first, then compare the data allowance, duration and network coverage shown on the plan. Regional and global plans can be useful for multi-country trips.

Travel eSIM or a local physical SIM?

A travel eSIM is convenient when you want to arrange connectivity before departure and avoid swapping your usual SIM. A local SIM can suit longer stays, but may involve finding a store, identification requirements or changing your number.

When does a plan start?

Start and validity rules vary by plan. Always review the plan’s stated duration and activation details before purchase, especially if you are installing before your trip.

iPhone guide

Install an eSIM on iPhone

Use the installation details supplied with your order. Keep a stable Wi-Fi connection during setup.

  1. 01

    Open Mobile Data settings

Go to Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular), then select Add eSIM.

  2. 02

    Add the eSIM details

Choose the option to use a QR code or enter the supplied activation information manually, then follow the on-screen prompts.

  3. 03

    Label your travel line

Give the new line a clear label, such as your destination, so it is easy to select while travelling.

  4. 04

Set data preferences at your destination

Select the travel eSIM for mobile data, enable data roaming for that line if your plan instructions require it, and keep your primary line settings as desired.

Important: Do not delete an installed eSIM unless support confirms it is safe to do so. Many travel eSIM profiles cannot be added again after removal.

Using and troubleshooting your eSIM

I have no data connection. What should I check?

Confirm the travel eSIM is selected for mobile data, mobile data is enabled, and any plan-required roaming setting is on for that line. Restart the phone after changing settings and leave network selection on automatic unless your plan instructions say otherwise.

Why is the network different from the name I recognise?

Travel eSIMs may connect through a local partner network. The available network and 4G/5G service can vary by location, device and local coverage.

Can I use a hotspot?

Hotspot availability depends on the specific plan and network. Review your selected plan’s terms before relying on tethering for work or multiple devices.

How do I check remaining data?

Keep your order number available and contact support if you need help with plan information. We will use the order details to investigate the correct next step.
